ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM DEGREE TRANSITION INFORMATION

On May 20, 2015, the Athletic Training Strategic Alliance announced that the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) Standards for Accreditation of Professional Athletic Training Programs will be changed to require that professional programs be at the master’s degree level. The University of Alabama (UA) is dedicated to meet this accreditation requirement in order to continue providing exceptional education to produce strong athletic training health care providers. UA’s Master of Science in Athletic Training degree proposal has been approved by the Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama and the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, with an anticipated first cohort beginning in Fall 2022.

The University of Alabama Athletic Training Program is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 2001 K Street NW, Third Floor North, Washington, DC 20006 USA. The CAATE has approved the Substantive Change for a change in level of degree.

Students Entering UA as Freshmen Fall 2021 or later

    1. Students entering The University of Alabama as freshmen for the Fall 2021 semester and thereafter will not be able to pursue an undergraduate degree in athletic training. Recommendations on majors and prerequisites for UA's MSAT Program can be found on the MSAT Admissions page.
    2. An athletic training minor has been approved and more information can be found in the UA Course Catalog.  Students entering UA in Fall 2021 and thereafter would have this minor available to prepare them for application to a Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) Program.
    3. All future students interested in pursuing a degree in athletic training at UA will need to apply to UA’s Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) degree program. More information can be found on the UA MSAT program website.
