ANNOUNCEMENT:
ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM DEGREE TRANSITION INFORMATION
Students entering The University of Alabama as freshmen for the Fall 2021 semester and thereafter will not be able to pursue an undergraduate degree in athletic training. An athletic training minor has been approved and more information can be found in the UA Course Catalog. Students entering UA in Fall 2021 and thereafter would have this minor available to prepare them for application to a Master of Science in Athletic Training Program.
For students who are entering in the Fall of 2020 or are planning on changing their major to Athletic Training, please note the last admission cycle to the professional phase of the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree will occur in Spring 2021. Students who will have completed all program application requirements by the end of the Spring 2021 are eligible to submit their admission application in March 2021. Admission decisions for the BSAT will be made in May 2021. The final cohort of students seeking the BSAT degree will graduate in May 2024.
All future students interested in pursuing a degree in athletic training at UA will need to apply to UA’s Master of Science Athletic Training (MSAT) degree program. More information about UA's MSAT program can be found here.
This change will have no impact on students that are currently enrolled in the Professional Phase of the BSAT degree program.

program information
Candidates sitting for the BOC Examination must graduate from a CAATE-accredited professional AT program. CAATE-accredited professional AT programs provide the student with the appropriate formal classroom instruction and clinical experience necessary to succeed as an entry-level allied health professional. For a detailed list of AT Programs accredited by CAATE, visit the CAATE website, https://caate.net.
For the 2016-2019 cohort, 75 program graduates sat for the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination for Athletic Trainers. Sixty of these graduates passed the examination on the first attempt, resulting in a 3-year first time BOC pass rate of 80%. Seventy-two of these students passed the examination regardless of the number of attempts (96%). Click here for additional information on AT Program outcomes. Please visit the CAATE website for additional information on national BOC pass rates.
Tuition and Fee information for UA Students can be found HERE. In addition to the expenses common to all UA students, there are other costs which are specific to the AT Professional Program. These expenses are described here with estimates to help with planning. They are subject to change from year-to-year.

In 1987, funding for the preliminary development of an AT Program at The University of Alabama was obtained through grants from The University of Alabama, AMI West Alabama Hospital, and DCH Regional Medical Center. Athletic Training is currently recognized as a major leading to the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree within the College of Human Environmental Sciences, Department of Health Science. The National Athletic Trainers’ Association Professional Education Committee approved the AT Program in July 1991 and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs accredited the program in 1996 and 2001. In April 2018, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) awarded the AT Program 10 years of continuing accreditation.
